The Borough offers a special Monday collection program, which enables summer rentals that have signed up for the program to put both their trash and recyclables at the curb in plastic bags on Sunday evenings after 5:00 p.m. for Monday pick-up. This enables summer renters, most of whom are not in town during the week, to take care of their trash and recycling before they leave for the weekend and without having to make private arrangements to put their trash and recycling out on the specified days in their neighborhoods, and to retrieve their cans after they are emptied.

If your landlord already signed your rental unit up for the special Monday collection program, he or should have given you a supply of 6-mil clear plastic trash bags, and 20 bright orange bulk stickers. (If you thought those plastic bags were rain ponchos, you can buy more at Taylor Hardware at Tenth & Main.) You can put your trash and recycling out any time after 5:00 p.m. on Sunday evenings for Monday’s pick-up. Your recycling must be in a clear plastic bag AND have one orange bulk sticker affixed to the bag. If you put your recycling out without this sticker or earlier than 5:00 p.m. on Sunday night, you’ll get a summons.

If you are not sure if your rental is currently enrolled in the special Monday collection program, or to make arrangements to sign up, please contact the Code Enforcement Office at 732-681-3700 (ext. 214). The fee is $100 for the season.

Recyclables can also be disposed of at the Borough’s Recycling Center, which is located adjacent to Dempsey Park. The entrance is located on West Railroad Avenue between Thirteenth and Sixteenth Avenues. The center is open Monday thru Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Recycling Center is closed on Wednesdays.

If for some reason you can’t put your trash out after 5:00 p.m. on Sunday evening, it must be placed in a securely covered trash container in a place on your property that can’t be seen from the street or from your neighbors’ property.

Do not mix recyclables in with your regular trash.

Disposing of household trash in a public trash receptacle or any other place except at curbside in front of your rental is strictly against the law. Fines for such unlawful dumping are prosecuted under the State’s Solid Waste Management Law and fines start at $2,500.Â
